My bee suit seems to have lost its sting proofness. I was like a pin cushion the last 2 days. No fun. Very painful. So today, with scorching heat forecast, I have have several layers beneath it and will probably faint instead #beekeeping

#Beekeeping #tip of the day: switched to #Castile #soap for washing my hair, have had great lack of reaction from bees. (sometimes they got annoyed at the floral scents the random-shampoo-on-sale that I was using). They also particularly hate some of the strong scents my son has on soap bars (he has not switched yet, though...)

Honey #Bees are all over my Ice Plant (Sedum) in my garden today, sadly not one of my colony as I lost my garden colony to wasps this year.

Lost our first #beehive to #raiders. The beehive was loaded with honey, and another hive decided to take it for themselves; they overwhelmed the small set of guard bees, killed the queen, and stole all the honey. A bit of a mess to clean up today, this happened a week or so ago and the flies had gotten to the remaining brood, plus wax moths had just started laying. Lesson: 1. keep the entrance SMALL with a new hive 2. Don't have that much honey for a regenerating hive. #beekeeping

We've done #HiveInspections again and pulled out a frame (with open cells, uncapped larva, and capped brood) from the swarm hive and put it in our original hive. We think our original hive is queenless and has a couple of drone-laying workers or we have a drone-laying queen that didn't mate properly. So, we will check the original hive again on Saturday or Sunday and see of they've created any queen cells on the newly added frame. #beekeeping #bees

Well that was a tiring day on the bees. Stuart got a touch of the sun or something and we had to pack in after putting clearer boards on one apiary and taking honey off another. Stuart was too poorly to help carry the supers in so that was down to me, only 10 luckily. Once he felt better we managed to do one more apiary. #beekeeping
