@LeviKornelsen 1/2 I prefer TTRPG tools that are mechanically elegant and efficient, and convey strong sense-of-place (in other words, rules-lite and theme-heavy). I like playing #fiction_first and to #find_out_what_happens with #Open rules systems. Began with #TunnelsandTrolls, then #Indie, then all about #OSR, but of late have been running #Beeswox (my complilation of #World_of_X resources) and started to explore #FKR. Preferred genres are #SwordandSorcery, #Space_Adventure, #Bronze_Age_Supers

Gaming things I really should get around to:
- Setting up a distribution for #Beeswox besides just pitching it to players at conventions.
- Finish the two clothespin fleets I started for Full Trust ages ago.
- getting that Thursday night open table thing I pitched in spring back on track.
- About a dozen organizational tasks I keep forgetting.
So of course, what I'm actually doing is starting another project, the #general_adventure_oracle
#beeswox #general_adventure_oracle
@LeviKornelsen I'm an advocate for truly open and non-commercial gaming, and strongly believe that approach is a must-needed alternative to consumerist-based entertainment. I wrote a game called #Beeswox, am a longtime fan and of #Indie and #OSR (and a member of their communities) and am starting to explore #FKR. I prefer face-to-face gaming, so if you're in the St Louis area, give me a ping.
I'm not keeping close track, but I think as of this wekend I may have finally sold more copies of #Beeswox than I've given away
Running a #Beeswox game at Fear the Con, where I'm realizing one of the younger players may be having a hard time grasping what it means that the pre-gen character they picked is a pacifist, given how often their first response to most surprises so far is to leap at it and bite.
I'm pretty sure I managed to entirely avoid using the words *he, him, she* or *her* in the text of #beeswox, except for the acknowledgement page when referencing specific people, and a couple SC's in the sample scenarios. Mainly to see if I could make a gender-neutral rulebook. Wonder if anyone will notice.
@Wightbred @rthorm #Beeswox can be found where the wind whispers my name over the clatter of dice. Or in other words, so far I'm selling it at-the-table when I run con' sessions (five bucks, cheap!). I'm getting around to some kind of online distro, both digital and hardcopy.
In a weird little bit of synchronicity, I was mulling what other game to offer at Forge Midwest this weekend besides #Beeswox (weird compulsion of mine, always gotta offer at least two different games) when a friend cleaned out their closest of old boardgames and gifted me this old Bullwinkle and Rocky "role playing party game." (They also handed over the "Hannah Montana: Be Pop Star" DVD game, so I suppose tat's also an option).
@SymbolicCity @chrispwolf I really like #Offworlders (enough that I used it as a base for #Beeswox, my generic version of WoX). There's a neat suspense created by the "must keep the re-roll" rule for skills. Being an after-the-roll option, the player faces a choice on a 7-9 "partial success" result: use the skill for a reroll and maybe get a better outcome ... or maybe it gets worse. I like how that makes the skill a decision with consequences, not just a perfunctory buff.
Well ... they're printed, now to figure out what to do with all this #Beeswox. About twenty are set aside gratis for people named in the credits. And I figure I'll sell a dozen or so direct at conventions this year. As for the rest ... set up an Etsy page? Sneak them into book stores? Plant them in the little free libraries that every other house seems to have in my neighborhood?
My April 1st began with a pleasant surprise: early arrival of a big box of #Beeswox.
Sitting here, feeling satisfaction with just a tinge of apprehension wondering what obvious mistake I'll be kicking myself for not catching before sending #Beeswox off to the printers. Ah well, that's what 2nd editions are for.
I gave myself a "Composed by" rather than a full "Written by" credit in #Beeswox because I feel I can claim only so much merit for something that, in my view, is more a compilation and integration of material originally created by others rather than a fully original work. I've crammed the acknowledgements page near to bursting for the same reason.
The point of the project when one declares it's time to send it off to the printer not so much with a sense of achievement as capitulation, because even one more minute of editing, layout or rewriting will finally break you. #beeswox
@GamerMomLuna I'd like to finally get #Beeswox finished posted and printed, and maybe my SF project #ViatorGalaxia. But mainly I'd like to find a community of local face-to-face players up for non-D&D games. Left my last one just before the pandemic hit, found online play too frustrating, and haven't had much luck networking since then.
Succinctly I am an ambi-to-introverted, melancholic, laconic, somber-hued, radically progressive, pro-human, anti-fascist, old-school nerd and amateur writer of fitful output driven by aesthetic appreciation for any tableau of shadow, dusk, and ages lost.
