Tried the tutorial again. Much better result, with less cartoony colours and plethora of hills.
I think it's still a bit off from where the tutorial was going, largely because I think she was working off a reference photo that was never shown on camera. So there was a vague destination in mind at least.
Still, looking at them side by side is interesting. Completely different feel.

Today's attempt. As with yesterday, there are problems, although I'm a lot closer to the desired result this time. So progress.
Way too many little hills, which turns it into something of a cartoon. Which isn't necessarily bad, just not what the tutorial was teaching. Will try it again tomorrow now that I've got the basic idea.

Second attempt turned out much better. Learning has occurred!

First time trying a watercolour pencil tutorial, and frankly made a bit of a mess of it. Doesn't look a bit like what I was trying to replicate, honestly.
But the whole point is getting familiarity with the tools, so I'll give it another go tomorrow.

Trying hard to get back on the horse, but it's a horse I don't know how to ride.
So anyway, here's some watercolour pencil swatches.

#introduction Hi Mastadon family, this is my first ever post on a Fedi site! I go by Penwoopydo online, and I’m a 25 years old pan questioning male on the autism spectrum, born and raised in Australia!
I wish to continue on my journey to becoming an character illustrator. and I’m also interested in doing Creative writing too! Both are to facilitate my furry hobby. (Potential comic idea in the works, maybe?)
And I have also begun learning Digital Music Production again a couple weeks ago!
My beginner skills in these fields still need working on. But I hope you enjoy my company anyway! I’ll definitely be sticking to this space as my second chance of a connected social outlet!
also find me at @Penwoopydo@lemmy.world with more posts and interactions there coming soon!
Such a shame that both my once 2 favourite social networks (Reddit and Twitter) have gone to crap. I had made a few friends who engaged with me on Twitter over the years, and I had even made a new account with a tiny following , this year! (some were new mutuals!) Sigh…
Also I haven’t posted my own original artwork online yet, only comms from a friend. But I do have a Soundcloud and a Deviantart with my content!
Caution: this is a NSFW page with links to my other 18+ art accounts (I’m also into fetish art) , but there’ll be a few posts about my writing and other random posts (like music) that aren’t NSFW. I’ll be sure to add my content warnings to the sensitive posts.

I’m having a go again! I took about 300 art inspo pictures on my recent trip to Maine. So now I am beginning to try to paint them. First up, the stunning Jordan Pond in Acadia National park. #maine #acadianationalpark #jordanpond #art #watercolor #beginnerart #itried #landscape

I liked my small watercolor so much, I painted it again, but bigger! I think my shallow water is definitely improving. Next time I will try not to line my rocks up like little turtles. Lol #art #watercolor #beginnerart #itried #MaineInspired

tried out after a while
looking for tips to improve...
Given I'm starting at absolutely nothing, very little skill and ability and no experience whatsoever, should I try to learn #Watercolour or #WatercolourPencils ?
The main reason I'm working with pencils right now is simply because I have a package of student grade pencils (and a pack of dollar store brushes). I'm not tied down to that medium though, so maybe it makes more sense to get some actual paints and proper brushes?
Which is easier to find beginner instruction for?

My attempt at #WatercolourChallenge2 using my own photo of a pair of crocuses in the front yard. Only used yellow, red and cyan pencils. The flowers turned out...okay, i think? So did the shadow. But the background I had no idea what to do with, since the original photo showed the flowers growing from cedar mulch.
I have SO far to go, it's ridiculous.

Terminei meu primeiro trabalho em #pontocruz 🩷
Tem uns erros que só vi muito depois e deu preguiça de corrigir, mas tô mega feliz com o resultado 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜

Another #Zentangle, again experimenting with watercolour pencil. Although I think I went a bit too subtle with the blues in the wavy areas.

First attempt at using watercolour pencils for an actual piece. It really didn't turn out great.
Made as a late attempt on #CuratorPrompts147 which was posted a couple of days ago.

Playing with watercolour pencils today, for the first time ever.
They're pretty fun, although I'm a little overwhelmed by this whole new medium (I've never really done any painting). The blending is simpler than I expected, to be honest.
Anyroad, I made this.

So I went on an odyssey last week, trying to find what the actual official #Zentangle patterns are, and after downloading something around 200 step-outs and hand-drawing a few more...I still don't freakin' know.
Why is this so confusing? Why make it so unclear? Even official ones, I ended up having to collect from Pinterest and a variety of blogs and sites. It's bizarre.
But well, I was doodling and it turned into something.

Happened across a nifty little idea on YouTube the other day (channel called Sketchbook Skool), where you make little squares in your sketchbook and draw whatever you want, preferably from life. It doesn't have to be good. But even if it doesn't, once you fill a page it somehow all *does* look good, doesn't it?
That was a revelation for me. I'm very interested in anything that takes the pressure out of drawing, and that's what this does. In spades.

I'd like to talk a bit about the reasons why I decided to chronicle my process of learning pixel art.
I've never been good at anything art, and even though I've tried many times practicing and learning various artistic skills, I could never stick to it. Part of the reason was ADHD, rejection sensitivity dysphoria and a deep acquired shame of being bad at anything. 1/3

This time I made a papaya fruit.
It's my new favorite of the one's I made so far. But each one I make becames a new favorite. So well.. I guess I'm learning!
Below I added a photo of the real fruit too, as I don't know how common it is outside tropical regions.
It's been a long time since I did pixel art and posted anything here. But I haven't given up on practicing and learning.
Here is a banana I made today. Bananas are by far, the hardest thing I've tried to make so far. I'm pleased with the result, and I had fun making it.
