Friday the 7th of July 2023, the (IM) summer course that trains professionals to systematically design theory- and evidence-based interventions ended, certifying around fifty fresh IM-trained professionals.

The closing session beautifully reflected the nature of the Intervention Mapping community. I'll explain a bit about that here.

(after three more introductory toots with some background info)

and can promote better than punishment. Humans tend to gossip more with closer friends and about distant acquaintances for negative behavior which helps people to learn who to with and who to avoid. Using social cues to encourage results in better outcomes than insisting people change.

New study findings on effective to mitigate .

"The most effective type of interventions used social comparison—such as highlighting the behaviors or attitudes of others compared to the person receiving the message. Financial incentives were also particularly effective."

also...

"results highlight the need to make strategic decisions about whether it is better to target behaviors that are high-impact but harder to influence, or behaviors that are lower impact but easier to influence."

To get you started with accounts to follow, two lists I know of:

If you're interested in , check out germanrepro.github.io/Mastodon by @rmrahal

If you're interested in and , check out hpss.one/mastodon.html

For more lists, see github.com/nathanlesage/academ (anybody know of lists about methodology: qual, quant, evidence synthesis, measurement? 🤔)

[Boosts would be great, thanks! 🙏]

I purchased a Nebula subscription today and it's been wonderful to de-youtube so much of my video watching (though not all of it).

One interesting observation: I'm finding that I've been so trained to "like" videos that the lack of any sort of 'like' button has thrown me a bit. I love that it's not included, but it's going to take me some time to de-program my behavior.

Congrats Nele and Beyza, on your article on setting physical activity goals with AI dialogue. Surprising results: a reduction in people's conviction to achieve the goal.

Quick shout out to / / friends...

Do you know of any good resources for and BS projects? There's something I'm thinking about, but want to delve into existing literature first.
I've GScholar'd some, but not found a good, central, repository of knowledge as yet.

I'll keep hunting but thought I'd ask, just in case...

We started creating the ABCD because is *hard*.

That's because behavior is complicated and the result of many psychological constructs or behavioral determinants.

There's no list of a number of 'tricks' you can use for behavior change: instead, interventions often have multiple components, targeting multiple determinants on multiple levels.

Here is something new Nele Albers and I tried. A 5 min youtu.be/NOLcLDW9yT0 accompanying @thePeerJ paper peerj.com/articles/13824/ on users' needs when using a digital quit coach and how to address these. This results from a mixed-method study (qualitative, quantitative, literature) where 600+ smokers shared their experiences and views after 5 interaction sessions and watching of future scenarios (e.g. GP referral).

Hey folks - would you join a Mastodon server aimed specifically at our community?

There is one I've found but it appears to be shuttered. Trying to work out if enough folks would be interested in taking it on (if the original owner would reopen/transfer) - could be an interesting space...
