I think #Bellingcat are too generous in their evaluation of #AI detection tools. 6 out of 20 false positives is horrible. Even with a 0% false negative rare, it means that in many real-world scenarios an image classified as AI generated will still be more likely to be real than AI generated.

And the false negative rate is actually quite high on compressed images. I'm guessing most of the real images in their training set had jpeg artifacts, while the AI images did not.

Humans are smarter than AI. I suspect we always will be.
