The case of logging and clear felling the proposed Great Koala National Park - On Consultation and consent 1/3

Times have rapidly changed. The old school extractive ways were perceived as legitimate under colonial extractive regimes.

Today we are confronted with an urgency of interlocking global crises of the environment and democracy. Anthropocene defaunation and an increasingly uninhabitable climate exposes human well-being under increasing threat.

'Business as usual' is no longer tenable. A new set of circumstances demands a rapid transition and consensual modes of action. Trust and legitimacy can be generated by genuine participatory deliberation of all 'stakeholders' and societal institutions.

People increasingly claim ownership of their planet and question the legality of the commodification and financialization of their only home.

Consultation and cooperation in a democratic civil society must consult all 'stakeholders' in public (digital or f2f) for a consensual outcome. The operating party has to face the affected community in person in public meetings. Stewards of biodiversity and the climate have to be present 'at the table'.
Discussions and negotiations should be public, transparent and take all aspects (externalities) into account.

Stop deforestation and clearfelling in a climate emergency
Stop eradicating ecosystems in a biodiversity crisis
Stop the denial of reality
Stop logging the proposed Great Koala National Park now

There is no consent.

Stop logging native forests in a climate and biodiversity emergency Pt 2

It is not ok to do industrial logging in a biodiversity crisis.
It is not ok to kill our atmosphere
It is not ok to kill the diversity of life on the planet.

Is it okay to kiss your pet? What diseases can pets carry?

"Dogs and cats are major reservoirs of zoonotic infections ..."

"Kissing pets has also been linked to occasional zoonotic infections in pet owners."

"Pet ownership is at an all-time high, with a recent survey finding 69% of Australian households have at least one pet."

Australians spend an estimated A$33 billion every year on their pets.

Bellingen residents choose to own an abundance of dogs and cats in the middle of a native wildlife hotspot. Pedestrians and staff of eateries regularly fumble on dog snouts. Dogs inside eateries often slobber over tables, but no one cares...

Monopolising and overusing residential roads for the purpose of industrial extraction.

For over half a year they made a highway out of the scenic Gleniffer Road so that the forest ' stuff' can be extracted and monetised before all that 'bush' is possibly declared a Koala National Park.

When Gleniffer Road was closed and traffic went along Roses Rd., the steep and bendy road was smashed into bits by overuse in the last seven month.

Almost on a daily basis various fossil fuel trucks and machinery patch the damage with small fossil fuel 'bandages' and widen the shoulders so that they can accommodate the machinery of (forest) destruction.

Would rare glossy black cockatoos nest in the proposed Great Koala National Park on the NSW Mid North Coast?

Conservationists are celebrating the rare discovery of nests of one of Australia's most-threatened cockatoos.

The bird is one of the most-threatened species of cockatoos in Australia
For the first time in more than 20 years, glossy black cockatoo nests have been discovered on the New South Wales' Mid North Coast.

Killer roads prevent fossil fuel free mobility

"...Most transport funding goes towards building wider and longer roads “embedding car dependency” – which leads to more driving and ultimately more congestion."

"Thirty-five cyclists were killed on Australia’s roads last year, slightly down on the 10-year average of 38.5. About half of those were aged 40 to 64, and most were men, according to the Bureau of Infrastructure and Transport Research Economics.
Australian Institute of Health and Welfare statistics show 14,796 bike riders were hospitalised in 2021-22."

Dr. Tim Cadman about clear felling Tuckers Nob forest, compartments 26/27, also know as the proposed Great Koala National Park.
on Coffs Coast Breakfast (start 38 min - 49 min)

abc.net.au/listen/programs/cof

Some points mentioned:

The impacts of clear felling on koalas and wildlife.
Koalas and other wildlife are 'blind' to so called 'plantation' labels or old growth forests.
The proposed logging period also overlaps with the 'vulnerable to extinction' marsupials' breeding season. ( September and February)
The noise, trucks, dust, fires, smoke, pesticides of industrial logging operations making the area unlivable for all living beings.
Possibly an uninhabitable scenic Gleniffer for approx. 2 - 5 years due to being tuned into an industrial site.
The short notice to (some) residents.
The undemocratic nature of non-consultation.
The fobbing off to a FCNSW website.

At approx. 47 min FCNSW had their statement read out.

The biggest likely source of microplastics in California coastal waters? Our car tires
Driving is not just an air pollution and climate change problem — turns out, it just might be the largest contributor of microplastics in California coastal waters.

“No one had looked at all the water rushing off the streets during rainfall events to see whether that had plastics in it...That makes all that driving we do something to think about, not just in the Bay Area, but any setting where there are cars.”

“...It’s about individual behavior change, it’s about more corporate responsibility. Together, we can make a big change.”

Council introduces laws to help protect endangered koalas from dogs

"Dog owners living in parts of the Gold Coast must now follow strict rules or face fines under tough laws designed to keep koalas safe...New laws in a Queensland city mean people who live in designated koala habitat area must prevent their dogs from attacking the animals, by providing a range of options so the marsupials can enter and escape."

"Each year, probably about 100 koalas get taken into animal hospitals … due to dog attacks, around about 75 per cent of them die — so it's a major issue."

"The proposed new laws have been designed to help protect koalas by ensuring dog owners in designated koala areas provide koala-friendly backyards"

Dangerous fires and a bottlenecks when fleeing bushfires

Koalas Need Trees -
Koalas are in serious decline suffering from the effects of habitat destruction, domestic dog attacks, bushfires and road crashes.

"Koalas are forecast to be e x t i n c t i n N S W b e f o r e 2 0 5 0 unless we act quickly.
Cutting down trees for urban development, logging and agriculture is destroying koala habitat and threatens their existence — yet the government is failing to protect koala habitat."

First koala growling heard this season in the Tuckers Nob state forest region. In a few days they are planning to destroy the endangered marsupials' habitat.

The extraction roads they are building around Bellingen (for the last year) could be sourcing the road making materials from the NSW Hunter region which is also a koala habitat. The forests there and here are covered in dust and residents relying on water caught off their roofs are forced to drink polluted water.
