The PDG Spring meeting took place yesterday.
Ringing was at Mears Ashby before the contest and ringing at Orlingbury. Six teams entered, and these were judged by Garry and Sue Mason from Leicester.
After an excellent tea, the judges gave their verdict on the ringing. They commented on how good the ringing had been throughout and that it had been a pleasure to listen to.
Towcester troubled the judges’ pencils the least and were declared the winners.

View of the tower this morning. An all local band fielded 8 ringers this morning. Rounds&call-changes and plain bob doubles.
The newly returned clock seems to tick more quetly than before, though the bells started off being louder as the hatch below the bells had been left open oops!

Bells on Sunday comes from All Saints Church in Wilbarston, Northants. The church dates to the 12th century. In 1884 it was restored and its 4 bells were augmented to make a ring of 5 bells. These needed significant repair after the church spire was struck by lightning in 1982. In 2018 the bells were rehung and augmented to a ring of 6 bells with a tenor weighing 7&1/2 cwt and tuned to the note of A flat by Taylors. We hear them ringing Delight Minor.

It takes a few years at least to train a novice ringer to a level at which they can ring a quarter peal. One might say that it's easier to get a medical degree!

Superb #bellringing practice. Carlisle, cloisters, York and Durham spliced, cloisters again and a touch of Carlisle. And to finish a very neat fall and catch.

Happy to be at the test ring at Loughborough yesterday with the structural engineer on site. We've been given the all clear to resume ringing.
Rang a plain course of Stedman as part of the test - I've really missed these bells! Now just need to build up the muscles again to ring the big bells.

Only the 3 Banners in the tower this morning, but we got to ring whole-pull plain hunt. Then Dan asked to ring it quicker, so we rang normal plain hunt which he did excellently👌. Proud mum moment for mother's Day 💐.

Bells on Sunday comes from the church of St Botolph in Stoke Albany, Northamptonshire. The original church was established before the Norman Conquest and is mentioned in the Domesday Book. The church had five bells cast by Robert Taylor of St Neots in 1790. These were augmented in 1888 to a ring of six bells by the John Taylor foundry of Loughborough. The tenor bell weighs ten hundredweight and is in the note of A. We hear them ringing Surprise Minor.

Sunday morning achievement - rang a really good quarter of Stedman Caters this morning (like REALLY good). I almost didn't want it to stop.
(For those wondering wtf? it's a piece of bellringing that was continuous for 49 minutes. Caters tells you it had 9 bells that were changing order and the heaviest bell, with the lowest note, was at the back, providing the beat. Stedman is the name of the way the order was changed. It's a hobby with it's own special code! iykyk)

ah ha! Surprise practice last night finished with a surprise touch of Stedders! Lots of Cambridge, Superlative and Lessness. Just need to remember to dodge when ringing the treble in ALL the Places... oops! The we get to put the world to rights in the pub.
