Dragon Con 2023: Music Games
Save Point brought a whole bevy of Japanese arcade music games to DragonCon this year. I am of two minds of them: it's definitely niche and I'm in favor of that, and it's nice to see a genre like this represented well. But they brought so many of them, and they were stationed close

Good news for Chris4Life: Konami decided to get rid of the rule that participants must be able to speak conversational Japanese.
Decided to do an off stream #IIDX session to prove to myself I don't need to buy another IIDX controller, and so far, so good?
Controller didn't have any turntable problems during this session, so if that turntable issue happens again during a IIDX/BMS stream, I know what to do now.
Wanna Party? Leggendaria is so much easier on a IIDX controller than on a keyboard, at least on non-Random.
#DDR Grand Prix (and I think A3?) got even more songs from the Undertale soundtrack.
Their charts are interesting to say the least; they decided to keep making them shock arrow charts even on Expert and Difficult.
Good news: the 11th Konami Arcade Championship is allowing non-Japanese contestants again.
Bad news: They have to know at least conversational Japanese, and they have to pay for their own flight.
Anyone else a fan of rhythm games and chill? 😸

I really wish there was a non-subscription, worldwide version of IIDX that I could play at home.
Guess I'll settle for DJ Max

Decided to play the new #iidx #infinitas update.
* Leggendarias are here. Got to say, it's a little more stressful to play them since they're not free. Really delivers the arcade experience at home, I joke to myself.
* Repeat missions and song missions are gone. You now get 1000 bits for clearing a song, with a bonus if it's a new lamp.
#iidx #infinitas update: Super Infinitas Day event from July 27 to August 8!
* Infinitas finally has the Leggendaria difficulty. Costs one L-disc per play, one Infinitas Ticket can be traded in for 5 L-discs. (Not as bad as I was expecting…)
* New sorting options!
* 3 new songs coming on August 2nd!
* 2 free Infinitas tickets if you log in during the event!
* 3x Bit Boosts during the event!
* Daily logins give 5000 bits (5 times), 8/8’s gives 50000 bits!

Went for another trip to Round1.
* Managed to pass a 15 on #DDR and passed an old Crazy chart (a 14) on #PumpItUp with a mask on.
* Almost sight read full comboed a 13, too. Got tripped up by one part and got a few Goods.
* Passed another 12 on #IIDX I passed on Infinitas on an arcade cabinet, got a few AAs along the way too, slowly getting used to the arcade cabinet with these last few visits
All in all, a good day
Konami is making pop'n music compact controllers now, similar to the mini controllers they made for the PlayStation games. Available at Konamistyle, which (IIRC) only ships to Japan.
Costs 16,800 yen (about $122), pre-ordering gives you a choice between a few benefits, including a unique e-Amusement pass or a free Start Up Selection song pack (+ Lively tickets).

Video of it in action.
You'll be glad to know they finally changed it so that it starts at 300 BPM so you don't have to adjust your floating hi-speed at the beginning of the song. Hopefully they applied that change to the Hyper and Normal charts, too. (I also hope they'll apply it to Infinitas later, but I'm not holding my breath.)
Konami is celebrating the 25th anniversary of DDR with a song creator audition and a vocal audition.
Both auditions are Japan only, but anyone can download the instrumentals.
Konami had a big hit in Japan with beatmania, to the point where it even has an official typing tutor! From 5 buttons and a turntable to 31 keys, hoo boy!
