I was wondering if others were digging into the privacy implications, but I couldn’t find any discussions online that weren’t just marveling at the technical capabilities of #BeMyAI. So ultimately I’ll defer to the actual users of the platform who get use out of #BeMyEyes as an #accessibility aid, and keep providing assistance wherever it’s warranted and desired. But I don’t know if I’ll ever truly get comfortable feeding AI training systems with human labor.

#BeMyEyes is adding AI-powered assistance with their new “#BeMyAI” service, and they’re updating the terms of service to give them access to support call recordings for training data. I’m very hesitant to do anything that assists AI-driven tools (I realize it’s becoming more and more difficult to actually avoid becoming training data), but I’ve been happy to do this volunteer work for many years now, and if it’s still providing a valuable service for #blind people, I suppose I’ll stick with it.

I don't really have anything for Be My AI to take a picture of, so I just took its description of one of @Swede1952's pictures and verified it against Swede's alt text. Swede is sighted, an experienced photographer and very good at writing alt text, so I feel he's a reliable source to check against.
Be My AI's description was very detailed and matched Swede's description almost perfectly. Although, I wouldn't call a bird fight 'beautiful' lol.

After having the app for years, I actually got my first "be my eyes" call and was able to help someone out by reading some info for them. Neat! #bemyeyes #bemyeyesapp

So I read something interesting today on the Be My Eyes blog. They are partnering with an organization, called the Lego group, which will begin providing video assistance to blind and visually impaired persons, who are interested in building, Lego sets, and they will help them with the young boxing of Lego sets they have just purchased. I think this is really cool! It makes me want to get back into playing with Legos even though I haven’t done that since I was a kid. #BeMyEyes #Lego.

Just used the Be My AI to take a picture of the back of the bottle of some special cleaner. I asked, instructions? And it came back and told me just the instructions from the back of the bottle. A very helpful tool indeed! 😄 #BeMyAI #Helpful #Blind #BeMyEyes

So I would just like to take a moment to say how grateful and happy I am that be my eyes is around. When I met my wife, about five years ago, I had just joined Be My Eyes, and convinced her to sign up as a cited volunteer. For me, it has allowed me to lead a more independent life without always relying on her for assistance. But what really put it over the top is the virtual volunteer that they have come out with, it is allowed me to enjoy my photos from my library, like my sighted counterparts do. Just today, I was able to take some photos using just the camera on my phone, then, later, I had to be my eyes, describe them, and used those descriptions as art text when I uploaded the photos on here earlier. I would like to say thank you to the entire Be My Eyes team for making this possible. And also the closed, beta testers who helped. Dzisiaj dostałem testy wirtualnego wolontariusza bemyeyes na #ios na #android ma być do końca roku.
Testowałem tak pobieżnie i tak.
Najpierw robimy zdjęcie po czym czekamy chwile i dostajemy odpowiedź w języku angielskim. Jak chcemy po polsku, to piszemy mu że napisz po polsku. potem będziemy mogli z nim pisać po polsku. Rezultaty są jak na 5 minut testowania bardzo dobre.
#logout czy #envisionai się przy tym chowają.
Rezultaty rozpoznawania są dużo bardziej uszczegółowione niż w przypadku innych rozpoznawaczy zdjęć.
Ciekawe jak się to rozwinie, bo ten bemyeyes jest bardziej pomocny niż nie jedna apka tego typu. Jedyny minus jest chyba taki, że zdjęć osób to nam nie opisze, być może ze względu na prywatność.
No ale i tak jest spoko.

Acaban de darme acceso a la beta de #BeMyEyes para la descripción con IA. Sólo puedo decir que cuando consigan que responda en castellano, va a ser la primera de las opciones para identificar cosas. Como curiosidad, la he probado con una botella de detergente y me ha dicho la marca, los colores de la botella, el texto escrito y ... su traducción al inglés. También he probado con una foto de paisaje desde mi balcón y ha identificado todos los elementos que yo conozco.

I found out? #bemyeyes' picture recognition automatically covers all faces by a brown rectangle. I guess it's all about privacy issues, but for me it's really a pitty, because often face expressions of persons are most important to understand a pictures' mood and statement and we are further on excluded from information every other observer has. I hope #bemyeyes finds a way to let us partticipate also in this information. besides that the feature with its detailed descriptions is just amazing!

Really a pity, that "be my AI" from #bemyeyes seems to make all faces unrecognizable automatically. It would be so great to have the chance to learn more about face shape, Eye collor, and most of all face expressions of People on pictures.

Nach einem super anstrengenden Arbeitstag hatte ich heute das Glück, bekocht zu werden. Was es gab? Ich habe meinen Teller fotografiert und "be my AI" von #bemyeyes das Bild beschreiben lassen. Hier ein auszug aus dem ziemlich genauen ergebnis:
"Auf dem Bild ist ein Teller mit Essen zu sehen, der auf einem Holztisch steht. Das Essen auf dem Teller sieht aus wie Bratkartoffeln mit einem Spiegelei obendrauf. Es gibt auch eine Gabel auf dem Teller, die in das Spiegelei gesteckt ist.-

@robertlogger Thanks for the suggestion. #BeMyEyes is great, it's an excellent app for short and specific questions and very good for slightly longer and more general questions. What it's not great for is for very long, comparatively at least, and more specific things like this one, partly for reasons of the volunteer (I'm hearing impaired and need you for at least an hour is not a great way to start a call), and partly for "physical reasons (holding a phone in hand and typing with another isn't as easy as it might be, and I haven't yet seen a reasonable pouch/tripod for reading from the computer screen). Thanks again for the suggestion, it really is a great app for so many things. #blind
