Just finished my morning run. 5 miles at an 11:03 pace. Came in under an hour. That was my current goal. Next up I’m going to use a slow 5 mile run as my base training but start adding shorter but faster runs in. Building up to a sub 30 5k.

Now down to the basement to do a short lift. Benchpress 5-3-1 at 80-85-90% of max. Session 13 out of 15 for the current cycle. Schedule permitting, I’ll be remaxxing towards the end of the week!

Another day, another run with some strength added in.

Run: ~37 minutes
Bench Press: 5x5 @ 70% + 20lbs (115#)

Next will, I’ll be adding in a second strength item. Either deadlifts or power cleans. TBD.

I also plan to benchmark my back squat next week so I can start building that in in the coming weeks.

I’m starting proper weight training cycles starting this week. The last few months I’ve just been going general stuff to get past DOMS. But now that I’ve got my fitness center built, and I have some momentum with my workouts, I’m going to start some intentional build cycles.

This week, I am benchmarking my strength on different movements. Last night I did Barbell Bench Press. #145. Failed at #155. A far cry from my previous PR of #195. But it’s been 6 years since I trained. Tomorrow, I’ll be doing back squat. Thursday Power Cleans, Friday deadlift.

Workout tonight:

Back Squats: warm ups, 1x6 @ 275lbs (80% 1rm), 4x6 @ 255lbs (75% 1rm)
Close grip bench: 3x8, 2x6 @ 155lbs (70% 1rm)
Barbell rows: 4x12 @ 135lbs.

Not too bad. Squat weight definitely felt heavier than last time, but doable still. Pulled something in my left general ass/low back area, so I swapped front squats for close grip bench. Love the 8+ sets after being away for a while!

* Dumbbell Row: 4x10 @ 35lbs (each side), 30s rest between sets.

I thought it would be useful to share the correct way to load a barbell up. This is guaranteed to add 10% to your 1rm and is a sign you know what's going on.

* Close grip bench: 4x8 @ 190lbs.
* Dumbbell Row: 4x10 @ 35lbs (each side), 30s rest between sets.

Continuing my random program from last week. Deadlifts were definitely harder after the run yesterday, but not impossible! Goofed the third set of bench by not taking a long enough rest. Got it on the 4th though.

Pushed through some frustrating challenges including (hopefully) the last dregs of a migraine and got in some today! Tried cable pullover for the first time, was thoroughly humbled and loved it. Worked on my form too, which needs a lot of love. is next on my list to improve.
