EO Media (owner of The Bulletin in Bend) is starting a new newspaper in Medford, OR, in the wake of the closure of the local paper there. Rare to hear about newspaper startups, it’s refreshing.

At some point the local classic rock station became mostly butt rock and Team Kia ads but it's hard to pin down exactly when the change happened. #bendoregon #inbend

We can’t always control what happens in life, but we’re in control of who we choose to be in the space of what’s happening.

Bend and its sister cities of Redmond, La Pine, and Sisters, act as a central hub for caving activities in Oregon. They reside in Deschutes County which contains the most caves in Oregon with a current count over 858! It is projected that the amount of caves in Deschutes County will continue upward toward 1,000 as new caves are discovered each year.
While 858 is a staggering amount of caves, it is not a very diverse group since 702 of those are lava tubes.

Downtown, c. 1920
The name "Bend" was derived from "Farewell Bend", the designation used by early pioneers to refer to the location along the Deschutes River where the town was eventually platted, one of the few fordable points along the river.
Native Americans hunted and fished here. In the winter of 1824, members of a fur-trapping party led by Peter Skene Ogden visited the area. John C. Frémont, John Strong Newberry, and other Army survey parties came next

Native Americans hunted and fished here. In the winter of 1824, members of a fur-trapping party led by Peter Skene Ogden visited the area. John C. Frémont, John Strong Newberry, and other Army survey parties came next. Then pioneers heading farther west passed through the area and forded the Deschutes River at Farewell Bend.
