Pascal died in 1662. This quote is from his “Pensées” (“Thoughts”) that were published posthumously in 1670.

The French original goes like this: “… tout le malheur des hommes vient d’une seule chose, qui est de ne pas savoir demeurer en repos dans une chambre.”

A problem then, a problem today still.
