Ben Sasse, a Republican Senator from Nebraska, resigned today at noon. Governor Jim Pillen, who is also a Republican, is set to choose his successor.

Sasse had served since 2013 and won his last election in 2020 after receiving 62.7% of the vote. He was well-known for his oppositon to Trump and his vote to convict Trump during his second impeachment trial. Sasse resigned in order to become the President of the University of Florida.
