I've released Pythia, an open source web API/service for running #MachineLearning inference on images using #yolov5. We have a new paper out in Earth & Planetary Science Letters (#EPSL) entitled “Indian margin methane hydrate dissociation recorded in the carbon isotopes of benthic (Miliolida) foraminifera”
Main take home message: we have identified a group of #benthic #foraminifera (unicellular organisms living at the bottom of the #ocean) whose shell chemistry carries signatures of #methane dynamics within #marine #sediments.

On our end, we've been using #benthic #macroinvertebrates , bugs collected from the bottom of #streams , as 'natural' #eDNA samplers. So far, we've been able to detect both #macroinvertebrates and #diatoms from the same mixed community samples to construct trophic networks to assess stability and identify keystone species "Multi-marker metabarcoding resolves subtle variations in freshwater condition: Bioindicators, ecological traits, and trophic interactions" https://doi.org/10.1016/j.ecolind.2022.109603

A Mayfly in October here in the end of November.
This female mayfly was perched by the office door for ~2 days. Of course, I spent too much time observing her. It’s silly but I get sad when I know a mayfly won’t pass on their genes. Would have been too far to back to the ditch from where she emerged.
