@davidaugust @sodalis ok when I was talking about a monarchy I was referring to a constitutional monarchy. We've just come out of a successful election last nov which, having participated in as an observer l, was probably one of the fairest in years. We had street protests for years over the state of our electoral process called #bersih which also means 'clean' and they worked. I guess I'm referring to what came after. The selection of the Prime Minister was done according to convention by the monarch. But the monarch is constrained by convention. Not that he doesn't have wiggle room but a bank of constitutional experts advises at that point. And as a liberal minority in #malaysia, I must say the King acted with every appearance of good faith. VERY long story short 😃😜
I heard about someone’s participation in the #Bersih movement and its an extraordinary demonstration of people power. Expat Malaysians globally have organised themselves to submit their postal votes to comply with the restrictive conditions (they had basically a 24 hour window to turn it around!). People have volunteered to fly the votes to KL and then runners will deliver onto the individual regions
