Not much left of Berwick Castle (Berwick-upon-Tweed, Northumberland). This is part of the wall and a tower.

Another border castle that changed hands many times. It was superseded by the towns' Elizabethan ramparts.

A lovely welcome to #Scotland on the #coastal path when you reach the northern most point of England just above #Berwick. Very tempting just to keep on walking... but we had an afternoon tea booked.

The welcome from us #sassenach bastards when you come the other way is somewhat less inspiring. It was, of course, a sign in Scotland from which I learned that Cuddy is #Scots for donkey.

Just spent over an hour trying to decide which fish and chip shop to try in #Berwick upon Tweed this week (needs to be takeaway). It's not that easy, which was a shock given Berwick's location ont sea and all. I'm thinking A Corvi even though they don't seem to do a large fish (!). Sacrifices.

I do however continue to love everything about the #pensioner special so beloved of chippies. It's the mandatory serving of bread and butter I suspect. Enough to make the French envious (it's not).

A brief sunny ☀️ interlude produced from one spot at least 10 singing skylarks, 5 lapwings in territorial display with attendant females and merlin going across the marsh like Concorde. No migrants along the coastal footpath to #Berwick-Upon-Tweed and all the stonechat seem to have done a runner 🤷‍♂️

20km along country lanes from #Berwick-Upon-Tweed to the causeway produced mainly skylarks, yellowhammers and plenty of dunnocks in the mangled hedgerows. A few pink-footed goose still around plus a few redshanks, oystercatcher. Obviously an overcast day. Hopefully a wheatear on the way back along the coastal footpath. #birds #UkBirds #UkBirding
