a fellow author sent me a draft to beta read and I wonder if maybe I should study English or something because there are so many times that I pick up on inconsistent grammar moods and aspects and things and I don't really know enough about how to identify and name what the problem is since I have never actually formally studied grammar. So I can identify when something is ambiguous as to when it is happening or happened relative to other things in the story but I don't really have all of the terms to describe how and why... but I'd like to have that and feel confident about saying 'you have gone from imperfective to perfective aspects and it is confusing and unclear' or whatever.

Champing at the bit to get back to my academic mystery WIP while waiting to hear from my other 3 beta readers. The 1st reports were helpful, positively & negatively. I have some definite notions on where to start with revisions, but I'm holding off to see what the other readers saw (or didn't).

So I fill the time doing research for Bk 2 & writing a review for a diptych mystery series I finished last month.

Hey, everyone! I'm looking for a beta reader who can speak #JamaicanPatois. I know this is a long shot, but I've got to try. It's only about two pages of dialogue (although, if you want to read the whole book, I won't stop ya!), and I just need a quick edit. I'm too much of a beginner to trust my own knowledge at this point, but I don't want to remove the language. I love it too much!

Editors are obvs an investment too, but IMO, beta readers are 👍🏼 and compensating them for taking time out of their life to help you with your story is the right thing to do. It also helps to ensure you actually get feedback since a transaction has been made and they are working for you. I *want* their opinion—good or bad—and if they aren’t paid, they have no real reason to even finish your book.

I'm very close to sending my novel to my beta readers. I need other eyes. Knowing they will see things I don't (or sense but can't put my finger on), I am looking forward to their feedback.
