I have 7 Beth Orton albums on my phone. I put them on shuffle and for 3-1/2 hours there were none that I wanted to skip.

That is the beauty and might of her work. I'm honestly astounded she is not at, or near, the top of everyone's singer/songwriter list.

I somehow missed Beth Orton's 2022 release, Weather Alive. Making up for that now. My initial take: ghostly & stunning. Beth borrowed the money to produce the album herself; she was dropped by her record label. She has a singular artistic vision & voice. My sense is this will reward close listening on headphones or alone in the dark. Music for introverts. Reminds me of late period Talk Talk, and that's high praise. A career high from a true artist.

A pivot from the folk-hop (trip-folk?) of Trailer Park, it's a beautifully sad album that really puts her unique voice front and center. (Great duet with Terry Callier in there, too.)

#BigThief, #WetLeg, and #BethOrton all made my best of 2022. For me, #BlackCountryNewRoad takes my top spot. It's actually one of the best things I've heard in a decade or so.

There is some stuff on your list with which I am less familiar. I need to go back and #KevinMorby and #AngelOlson a proper chance. And I'll definitely be checking out that #SunRa.
