On this #EarthDay I'll say something that will piss off a lot of "environmentalists" as usual.

We owe a tremendous debt to Michael Bloomberg. He's probably the individual that has done more to reduce greenhouse gas emissions than any other by funding the #BeyondCoal initiative.

I point that out just to try to moderate some of the extremism that is hampering us from getting a faster transition to net-zero emissions.

The global transition away from coal is gathering steam, but is still not fast enough to align with a 1.5C pathway - even with pledges.

Not to be a billionaire fan-boy, but Mike Bloomberg deserves more credit for sponsoring the Sierra Club's #BeyondCoal campaign that has helped us avoid tons and tons of GHG emissions.

Which reminds me of how much the climate community neglects to give Bloomberg the credit he deserves for donating so much of his wealth towards closing over 200 coal plants in the U.S.

And now largest clean energy and #climate investment in the history of the universe, the Inflation Reduction Act, will be speeding up #coal plant retirements even more quickly than did our #BeyondCoal campaign!
