Day 8 : Forgot to record yesterday (public posts are my self-accountability measure). I was going to take Tessa (short for Tessaract) the Folding Bike out for a ride but she too had a flat tire! That's 3 for 3 on bikes I don't ride very often. Zelda the E-Bike and I went for a short flat loop around the neighborhood instead, enjoying the cool misty air. Today I need to refamiliarize myself with the bike pump....

Day 6 : Rode Mary Poppins around our little neighborhood loop in the rain, with birds calling and the gentle thump of yet another low tire. Need to give all my bikes a turn more often.... When I first got Mary Poppins she only had 8 speeds bikestylespokane.com/2012/11/12/my-…. Later added another ring to get to 16, which gave me "super-low-granny gear" needed in Seattle. Still call this one my happy bike.

Getting on my road bike a couple of times since the start of reminded me of what it felt like to relearn using that bike after starting to ride an upright city bike 10 years ago in Seattle. I still don't love that top bar on the Sweetie bike. bikestylespokane.com/2013/02/1

Why is my road bike named Sweetie? Two reasons. The bike is a Specialized Dolce. (The translation is left as an exercise for the reader.) And this bike was a gift from my sweetheart back when we were dating. Replaced a big box mountain bike that was completely inappropriate for the commuting I had started doing.

Day 5 : Rode Sweetie the Road Bike home from the office. Left her there when I picked up a state car on Day 1--reversed the modes today. More work to pedal uphill than Zelda the e-bike but so lightweight by comparison it feels great. (Don't tell Zelda 🤫.)

Day 3 : Didn't make time to set up a bikeshare ride at the end of a full day of working on a research panel related to active transportation equity and safety and then handling meetings/emails from a different time zone. Worked on biking even if I didn't ride a bike today. I'm going to call this a "bike-adjacent day."

Day #2 : A quick check the box trip to the end of our short street and back before hitting the road. Every ride counts, no matter how brief. Next couple of days I'll be in DC; have to find Capital Bikeshare to keep rolling. And if I miss it's okay.

Day 1 : Dusted off Sweetie the road bike to ride with my sweetie. Pumped front tire, started ride, went back, pumped up other tire, started again. Rode by the Washington state capital grounds, which are covered with hundreds of sparkly blue pinwheels to mark Child Abuse Prevention Month.

@PedalHoppy That was more or less my evolution too. I always tell people that every ride counts and I don't refer to myself as an "avid cyclist". I'm a person who rides a bike. I realized that saying I'm "avid" about something feels like it's a hobby, not a part of my everyday life.
