I'm in , in the far suburbs. Near us are ~48 miles of *lovely* paved (and for most part, interconnected) recreational . Many of those miles are former track lines.

But to get to the trails, you need a car-- unless you live right near one of the . Many spots on the trails have small restaurants not far off the trail to stop for food etc.

Streets don't tend to have special in my suburb, but a very few small sections do have them. Outside of downtown Aurora, we have a lot of suburban sprall. Almost all of that suburban housing and businesses are on roads that are not high-traffic during off hours, so can still ride fairly safely most of the time.

If you visit anywhere in the Chicago Suburbs, be sure to bring your and enjoy long rides along some of the many beautiful trails.
