Question for anyone who's lived on the #BigIsland of #Hawaii for many years: The other day I visited Carlsmith Beach Park -- a favorite spot, but this was my first time there right at high tide -- and was surprised to see the paved path that leads to steps going down into the water completely submerged. Is this the way it's always been, or is it a more recent development due to #SeaLevel rise? Mahalo for any info!

Meanwhile…the #bigisland fires have come under suspicion…#Hawaiʻi Island fire reported that firefighters responded to a 911 call that came in around 1:17 p.m. The call took fire personnel to several brush fires on Mill Camp Road in Pāhala. These brush fires have been identified to have started under suspicious circumstances. Heartbreaking…

The #BigIsland fires seem to be well north of Kona in the Kohala area. If you look at a map of the Big Island, that's happening in the most northwest part of the island (the part closest to Maui).

The list below are of all roads currently closed as of this morning. For 'just in case' have at least 2, if not 3 alternative escape routes as roads will be closed quickly as the fire spreads.

#TSCalvin tracking south of #BigIsland of #Hawaii. Generally strength is as predicted (40-45 mph sustained max winds). Center of storm is diffuse and most of the precipitation is to the north of the center, so while the center misses the Big Island, the rain will dump all over the Big Island.
