In the early 80's I was part of a queue of approx 3000 hairy youths that's stretched down Renfield St waiting to see Iron Maiden or Whitesnake (can't remember which) at the Apollo when Billy Connoly wandered out of the pub next door to the Pavillion only to be greeted by our massed
"Haw, Big Yin!"
To his credit he continued down the road until he could escape into Sauchiehall St.
That's my only "when I met Billy" story...

I mentioned yesterday that the Big Yin (Billy Connolly) was leading the tartan Day parade in New York city, and today I chanced upon this photo of "him".

The photo shows the façade of the iconic Glasgow Apollo theatre where Billy was appearing for 13 nights "in concert" (1975). He would more than likely have been wearing his famous Banana Boots on stage.
