North Oakland #BikeBus every Wednesday!! #BikeTooter

@glightly I've written my city council member a few times, and invited them out on a #BikeBus to school. They enjoyed seeing the kids ride (couldn't ride themselves due to a temporary injury).
The councilmember mentioned a bit about how lots of kids used to ride to school when they were younger, and I said something about how we should add protected lanes so they can do so again. The councilmember said something about how hard it would be because losing parking spots gets people so riled up, which made me have a lot of different simultaneous feelings.
Overall, I'm glad they came and I hope they return and that others join so they can see how possible it is to transform daily commutes.
I'm hoping we can do the #BikeBus every Wednesday until the school year ends https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GFNXM6sqFyk
@ryanvgates thank you, it was. And today we got a bunch of kids on the #BikeBus which is always a festive ride to school.
@bethsawin Every kid smile on our weekly #BikeBus school run gives me a small jolt of hope that we are building the social infrastructure to fight back
One morning on the #BikeBus last week, my kid was riding a little slow and said their bike was hard to ride. I didn't realize they got home that their tire pressure was super low.
Q4. What tire pressure do you prefer, and does that pressure vary by cycle/ride, etc?

A friend who we ride the #BikeBus with is getting a lot closer to buying a new cargo e-bike (e-cargo bike?). But some people prefer to electrify the bike they already have. @xtaran asks:
Q3. Do you see advantages of retro-fitting bicycles with e-assist over buying new e-bikes?

2 cool #BikeBus accomplishments:
1) We've been able to link ours up with another school, and another school did theirs simultaneously. So that's 3 Oakland schools this morning.
2) I think parents are into riding a weekly Bike Bus instead of a monthly bike bus. So we're going to try to shoot for regional Bike Buses every Wednesday.
Here's a video from our "casual" bike bus today: youtube.com/watch?v=sggqjJq3gWU
A6. I like both. Riding solo is nice because I can "hear myself think". I often ride with some combination of my partner and kid and that's usually nice too, with a lot of talking and story telling.
We do group #BikeBus rides and bike parades a couple of times per month and those are very different. It's some part amazing to see so many people riding at once and generally having a blast, and at other times it's a little stressful worrying about the kids' safety. But it's mostly the former. Other group rides I have done are usually fun but a few Bike Party type rides have been too intense.
(If you're into group rides and cargo bikes/family riding, there is an Xtracycle ride that we will be participating in tomorrow in Berkeley: https://xtracycle.com/blogs/news/cargo-bike-party-august-2023)
Group recreational rides and bike camping rides have been fun too, the ones I've done have been with friends and aren't too competitive. I enjoy organized centuries etc too but I'm not in shape for that at the moment.
We rode our first #BikeBus of the school year. Some of the kids used to struggle up the hill, now they’re sprinting up it ahead of us adults. Younger kids are doing great too. I’m thankful for everyone who joins, from parents to kids and to other community members such as @oaklandbikelab
I also made a new #BikeBus flag that I'll have to put on someone else's bike so I can see how it looks while riding:

@kzodasnowman ahhhh people in cars are still doing this terrible stuff? Is there a video of it? Wonder if we can get a cleaner look at the plates.
Also, that's on our #BikeBus route.
Hey I made some #BikeBus spoke decorations - happy to send some out if you lead a bikebus too. Send me a message if you want some!
Re #Introduction to me, for all the new folks.
Basics are in my bio. I talk a ton about #transportation, #VisionZero, #cargobike, #biketooter, #urbanism, #bikebus, #ClimateChange, & other similar stuff.
Also, lots of personal oversharing. Bad jokes. Local #Boston #CambMA stuff. Etc.
I like it a lot here, hope that you will too. If you follow me, and appear to have any sort of shared interest, i'm likely to follow back. If you scroll thru my "following" list, you'll likely find your people.

Q6. I run our local #BikeBus during the school year, once per month. Sometimes it's hard to get more kids to join, for a lot of different reasons. @enobacon asks:
Who at your city/state government/cars department needs to lose their job for kids to be able to safely & conveniently bike to school? Why do they still have that job(s)?
