Studies have shown that ebike riders still get basically as much exercise as regular bike riders because they cover more distance. But I got curious: do I burn more calories on my 50lb ebike, or on my 18lb single speed for the same ride? I took slightly different routes from my home in Somerville to Roslindale, but still close enough to compare. @BrooklynSpoke I saw your twitter post re predictability. I totally agree. I live in the Seattle Suburbs and my work commute by transit was affected by traffic and bad design. I used my e-bike for a 25mile one-way commute to get the predictability and the flexibility to work odd hours. My job at the time often had me working till 7/8/9 PM. Transit to the suburbs drops off steeply after 5:30PM.

Driving is just insane and as a ex-NYer I won't.

First bicycle ride after 4 months of COVID, equipment issues, worksite move, bad weather, holidays, & elder-care load. Only 10mi/16km to drop off some mail and deposit a check. Your work is not wasted. As an SF #BikeCommuter I see that the city is safer than at any time in the past 25 years. It is far from perfect, but activist work made a huge difference.

Over the years I was “bumped” deliberately, dodged dooring, saw cyclists hit, got run off the road on purpose by a dump truck, etc. Today 75% of my routes are protected!

There is more work to do. But there is a solid base now, so thank you!
