π 15yo victim riding on the left-side sidewalk (as one would, given the traffic Engineer's design of one-way painted bike gutters on each edge of a 5-lane stroad)
Might have just slow-rolled from behind a building, drivers definitely rolling 5mph past the stop sign while looking left for cars. This is NOT #BikeHelmets or #eBikes, it's a failure of #trafficEngineers' design & leadership to demand that typical aren't-we-all #drivers behavior doesn't risk murdering kids.

π love how every emergency room doctor thinks #bikeHelmets are the cure to people on bikes getting hit with cars (I mean yes discouraging people from riding bikes may save some people from crashes, but then they die of sedentary, and more people die in car crashes overall because there's even more cars everywhere thanks in part to doctors who can't see infrastructure.)
Never let your government get away with claiming that #bikeHelmets are "the first rule of bike safety".
Rule number one is infrastructure, and the 2nd is air+brakes+chain mechanical soundness of the bike, upright geometry of the bike, traffic awareness, ride with fingers on your brake levers and having practiced emergency stops, twenty is plenty... Helmets are for stunts or a footnote to "don't fall on your head" rule that applies to walking moreso than biking.

>Despite protective headgear being compulsory for children since 2008, there are surprisingly few bicycle helmet producers in Japan.
