What a day. Rode 50miles with the 12-year-old for @transalt's 50th Anniversary Ride on my Brompton, at least a third of them in pouring rain. Came home and got a call that we won a #Brompton at the finish line raffle!

3. They didn't even put up cones to make a temp bike lane, so I did for us

the Oulo city manifesto about biking (and biking infrastructure) being for everyone, not just hardcore devotees, ought to be a universal bike advocacy mantra

Got the bike out to Forest Park to scout out the trails finally. The hiking trails say no bikes but I took the bridle trail, which I think is fair game. It's a gravel path with some nice hills and curves suitable for a mountain bike. I did see somebody riding on the foot trails so maybe you can get away with it.

NYC makes things complicated because some of our vital, safe car-free #bike lanes are on NYC Parks land, without any viable alternative.

For me, this means that bike lanes, no matter whose ‘land’ they are on, should allow e-bikes (I mean the things that weigh under 100 pounds). Even better would be for Parks to turn over operation/maintenance of these to Dept. of Transportation.

If NYCDOT says they don't have enough Jersey Barriers, a reminder they are stockpiled in LIC under the Pulaski Bridge. These are the Yodock style ones. The ones you fill with water. Thinking instant bike lanes.

I didn't end up going to the zoo. My feet were hurting when I walked to the bus stop. So I turned around and went home. And I got my e-bike and rode up to Tibbetts Brook Park where a king and queen (Belted Kingfishers) laughed at me. I didn't get photos of them worth posting.

This is my newest ebike. It is an Aventon Pace 500.3. I've had it for 3 and a half weeks. Yesterday I had the Schwalbe Marathon E Plus tires installed on it. They replaced the original tires with Tannus Armour. I took a ride in the rain this morning and was not disappointed a bit with how the new tires performed.

In case you're curious, that is a Spiderflex seat and it's really comfortable. I have a couple of Brooks saddles on my other bikes but the Spiderflex is my favorite.

Also, I'm going to plug Tread Bike Shop. The service there is outstanding. I didn't buy this bike there but I've bought 3 other bikes from the shop. This shop treats women with respect, which is rare for a bike shop.

Open streets for biking, running and more on #SummerStreets in #Manhattan and what a beautiful day for it. Had so much fun biking down & back, and even got free vegan yogurt samples! Highly recommend getting an early start before the afternoon heat kicks in, haha.
