Video of a car passenger intentionally assaulting me on San Pablo Ave in West #Oakland around 5:20 this afternoon (June 7). The passenger struck me on the side of my head and helmet, knocking off my glasses. Thankfully, I did not fall over. I am physically fine.

The car was waiting behind/alongside me at a red light on West St, and attacked me as we turned the corner into San Pablo after the light turned green. I was in the bike lane the entire time, and had no prior interaction with the car. The car is a black Nissan Altima with CA license plate 7HFV146. #Oakland doesn't even pretend to enforce laws against delivery vehicles parking in bike lanes.
0 tickets were issued for bike lane violations to the big delivery companies from 2010-2022.
And only 33 were issues for other parking violations.

Me: Here's video of a normal scene in #Oakland, showing a car with no license plate weaving around oncoming traffic through a red light, after using the oncoming lane to bypass all the waiting cars.

There was a pretty bad hit and run on a cyclist at E 12th St & 39th Ave in Fruitvale on Thursday evening, per this Nextdoor post. I'm not putting the victim's name on blast here, but it sounds like he did what he could in terms of getting appropriate medical help and documenting the incident. I'm glad it wasn't even worse.

Another bike lane video from yesterday. There is 20 feet of legal curbside parking next to these two empty pickup trucks, but their owners left them parked in the bike lane anyway, because they know the City of #Oakland tolerates flagrant illegality like this. This part of 38th Ave almost always has several vehicles blocking the bike lane, and some drivers even use it for overnight parking, because they know they won't be ticketed, never mind towed. #BikeOAK #BikeOakland #BikeEastBay #BikeLanes #Cycling

Drivers are always innovating new ways of scaring cyclists. Yesterday, right after I had ridden around one empty car parked in the Telegraph bike lane, the driver parked in the bike lane 30 feet ahead of it suddenly put his car in reverse as I approached it from behind, only putting his foot on the brake AFTER his Prius started moving backwards. (He ended up making an illegal U-turn after I passed him, so I'm chalking this one up to sheer lack of driving skills, since he probably didn't mean to reverse at all.) #Oakland #BikeOAK #BikeOakland #BikeEastBay #BikeLanes #Cycling

Red light running is rampant in #Oakland, as evidenced by this maroon Honda. It's no wonder cyclists break traffic rules ourselves in order to get as far away as possible from those death machines.

On the brighter side, I was alongside the bus to my left for much of East 15th and then Foothill, and the driver was very attentive and considerate, taking care not to cut me off at corners or when they stopped at the curb to pick up passengers. A spot on Golf Links Road by Knowland Park is down to one lane, apparently because the shoulder is eroding into Arroyo Viejo Creek. I'm not sure exactly when it happened because I haven't ridden that way in a few months, but it looks like it'll be one lane for a while.

It sounds like 1,500' is the lowest elevation likely to get any snow in the East Bay hills. Skyline Blvd never reaches that, but Grizzly Peak Blvd tops out at 1,664 feet alongside Tilden Park. #BikeOAK #Oakland #Berkeley #CAwx
