Rode my bike over to my neighborhood hardware store today (A-Boy Barbur in Portland, OR). :/ When I mentioned to the Assistant Manager that I'd like to put in a friendly request for a newer bike rack because the one outside wasn't very secure he scoffed and rolled his eyes at me as he said "Yeah the manager knows. It's on a list somewhere of things that MIGHT get completed. Someday." (Emphasis his) 😕 Photos showing the crappy rack and signs by/on the door.

So, I've got an old UltraMotor "500W" hub motor that I was going to turn into an e-assist pedal propulsion device for a boat. But I've been doing some research for my #velomobile project and I think it might be better for that? While it's bulky and heavy by current standards, it's direct drive which makes it capable of regen braking. And apparently it's extremely resilient to over-volting and over-amping.

I dunno I want it for both, tbh

Weather forecast called for thundershowers this afternoon and evening. But I rolled the dice and biked to a date (brought rain gear just in case). So glad I did! It was faster and much more enjoyable than driving across town in rush hour traffic would have been. Biked it in under 30 minutes (including locking up thr bike), easily would have been 40+ minutes to drive.

Also? Bone dry. Not a drop of rain either direction. Gorgeous.

Anyway, anybody want to buy a truck?

Further complicating matters is shit like this which, as a rather risk-averse person, is incredibly strong incentive to reduce the amount of attention I might receive while on a bike. :(

Inattentive drivers are dangerous enough, verbally aggressive ones are even worse, but literally being hunted because I choose to ride a bike? That shit is fucking terrifying.
