Coyote Creek Trail, a nice 18 mile paved bike path in the southern portion of the San Jose CA area and just a bit north of Morgan Hill. We rode the trail out and back yesterday for an easy and mostly flat 36 miles. It's a pretty trail along the creek and worth exploring.

We did a nice casual bike ride this morning. An 11 mile loop from Capitola CA toward Santa Cruz, around the yacht harbor and back to Capitola along the coast road.

It's a nice way to start the weekend and clear the work-week mind.

We're feeling the effects of Tropical Storm Jova surprisingly since it's so far south and west of us. We finished a bit before a light rain came through, although we could see that it was raining to the south as we looped back.

We did a nice 21 mile bike ride with the Tri group this morning mostly along the farm fields in south west Santa Cruz county. It's a nice way to spend some of the weekend with friends.

We did a nice 30 mile bike ride on the Guadalupe River walk and bike path which runs along San Jose CA yesterday. I was surprised at how nice the trail is and how pretty the river is for the most part.

At one spot there must have been over 100 geese in the river.

The path seen in the geese photo must be a fire road. The actual bike and walking path is paved and on the levee.

The Guadalupe River main-stem is an urban, northward flowing 14 miles river in California whose much longer head-water creeks originate in the Santa Cruz Mountains.

@WTL Based on your comment that Ottawa has 800km of paths, I was curious. I found at https://ottawa.ca an impressive amount of info on the Ottawa paths. The paths along both sides of the Ottawa River must also be really nice. You are fortunate.

With yesterday's #BikeRide, I got very close to 1000 miles (1595 km) for the season so far, with, ostensibly, 15,645 meters of climbing (9.7 miles), easily doubling last year's sad numbers, and besting 2021's (more of a normal year). Strongest year (so far!) since 2017.

Still, every time I get ready to go, my brain thinks of other things I should be doing. Why does it hate me so?

Kathy and I did a casual bike ride today and stopped at Gayles Bakery in Capitola for a brief rest and water. If you don't know about Gayles, it's worth a visit. It's pretty much a Santa Cruz county institution.

Also a view of Capitola from New Brighton State Beach. It shows one of the low tides where one can briefly walk from New Brighton to Capitola. Mostly, that's not a recommended thing to do.

Pajaro River Levee Trail Bike Ride

Several of us enjoyed a 20 mile casual bike ride this morning along the Pajaro River Levee and along farm field roads on the Monterey side of the river. The trail runs along the Santa Cruz side of the river and is about 6 miles long depending on the starting point. The trail is a bit rough and pretty much requires wider mountain bike or hybrid tires due to the loose gravel and soft dirt in many spots.

A coyote near the levee trail is seen in the left photo.

The right photo is the levee trail end near the ocean. Unfortunately the trail end is blocked by the river and the slew. One can get to the ocean via farm roads. The Moss Landing power station cooling towers can be seen by the three trees on the left.

Signed up for a 50-mile #BikeRide in a week and a half – longer and considerably more climbing than I've done yet this season. It's a local charity ride I haven't done in a few years. Obviously, did it to force myself to commit more. So each ride between now and then needs to add at least a bit more climbing so I don't bonk. Today's ride will have helped.

Many of the organic farms were doing a lot of interesting things prior to the pandemic like a collection of organic farms getting together for a farm to table popup meal and other activities. The pandemic unfortunately stopped most of that, as it did a lot of activities. Hopefully we get back to those things.

Kathy and I did a 24 mile bike ride this morning with friends. We're all getting ready for the Strawberry Fields charity 30 mile fun ride at the end of May. We rode through Strawberry fields and ranch land in the northern part of Monterey county south of Watsonville and the Pajaro river.

Some of the farm land is still recovering from the Pajaro river levee break. Of course a large number of farms, farm workers, and small businesses in the town of Pajaro were badly impacted.

But on other fields the tractors were plowing for new crops and on some fields there are the early green leaves of strawberries and other crops were breaking through the soil.

There's something pleasant about riding in farm and ranch land in this area with it's rolling hills.

I'm in #Aurora #Illinois, in the far #Chicago suburbs. Near us are ~48 miles of *lovely* paved (and for most part, interconnected) recreational #BikeTrails. Many of those miles are former #Railroad track lines.

But to get to the trails, you need a car-- unless you live right near one of the #trails. Many spots on the trails have small restaurants not far off the trail to stop for food etc.

Streets don't tend to have special #BikeLanes in my suburb, but a very few small sections do have them. Outside of downtown Aurora, we have a lot of suburban sprall. Almost all of that suburban housing and businesses are on roads that are not high-traffic during off hours, so #bicycles can still ride fairly safely most of the time.

If you visit anywhere in the Chicago Suburbs, be sure to bring your #bike and enjoy long rides along some of the many beautiful trails.
