So let's use some of the money going to SFPD for faster, better traffic engineering fixes.

I can't help but believe traffic engineers know how to design speed bumps that you can drive over at 20 mph, and get a real shock at 30.

Perfect streets approaching/leaving on/off ramps

And then no turn on red arrows for the pedestrian walk phases, with camera enforcement.

And not just at 4th & King.

A few days ago, a 15 year old was killed in a collision with a van in Bend, Oregon, while riding an #ebike.
Disappointingly and predictably, people are harping how dangerous ebikes are, and that the rider wasn't wearing a helmet.
My first thought was, "wait a minute, do we know whether the ebike motor or lack of helmet had anything to do with the poor kid's death?" Pedestrians and (non electric) cyclists are killed by vehicle every day in America. This felt like victim blaming and pearl clutching over new technology, avoiding discussion of the real problem (#FuckCars!).

About 1970 I was riding on a two lane suburban street with a brief (<100 ft; 30m) uphill stretch with no shoulders. I was about half way up it on my 1970 3-speed when a tanker truck driver got impatient and passed me, sort of. The tractor passed, then he moved back into our lane, gunning the engine. With the tank directly above me, moving fast, I had one option and I took it. The ditch was a tumble of rocks, sticks, boards, plus me and my bike as the rear wheels sped by.

In Montreal, Jardin du Petit Monde is a space for young children to learn #bike safety by having a miniature #biking course, complete with painted lanes and crossings. The surface isn't very smooth, but actually prepares the kids for navigating the rough roads of #Montreal since QC is notoriously known to have very poorly maintained roads.

Love the idea! Hoping it will come out East here.

@triadne I do the same, but not all will be merely smiled at, at least in the U.S. Here, people of color are far more likely to be stopped and ticketed for breaking bicycle laws, such as helmet laws.
