@elliots 10th Street should have a 2-way cycle track because it connects Polk to Potrero. Or, at least a 1-way protected bike lane southbound from Polk/Market to Howard.
I've raised it with SFMTA staff, and they haughtily dismissed the idea saying nothing could be done because it would back up traffic getting on the freeway.
I've been mad about this for a while. https://sf.streetsblog.org/2021/01/08/sfs-vision-zero-failure-in-one-callout #BikeSF
Stoked to have the whole family out on bikes again. Weekend weather was amazing!
Knocked out tumbling, swimming, dining, and park party hanging with no car stress and lots of sunshine.
My fav shot from today's meandering ride around the Presidio.
My best attempt at an artsy GGB pic. Classic fog bank today.
SF bike frens:
I have to take basically the length of Slow Shotwell or Folsom tomorrow with my kid.
Which do you prefer?
When middle aged and older women feel comfortable biking in a city, you know youβre doing something right for safety. Notice Veronaβs bike track separated from car traffic with solid metal bollards. And car traffic is moving at a fairly low speed.
Itβs not quite Amsterdam @notjustbikes but still miles ahead of much of San Francisco
After studying a topographic map of San Francisco I have come to the conclusion Geary Blvd needs not just bus lanes but protected bike lanes
Itβs clearly the flattest, by far, route west from Japantown/Fillmore. #BikeSF
daily reminder that SFMTA's "bike network map" in theory covers the whole city pretty well... https://www.sfmta.com/maps/san-francisco-bike-network-map
...it's just that most of the "bike routes" are bullshit. going down the list and upgrading each route to either:
1) protected bike lanes with protected intersections, or
2) slow streets with <1000 vehicles/day <15mph
would give us a great network. that's it, that's the bike plan. #BikeSF
This is why I donβt ride in the bike lanes on 14th St, 17th St, Harrison, etc in SF. Theyβre so narrow, the entire lane is too close to parked carsβ doors to be safe. They should all be upgraded to protected bike lanes before a similar tragedy happens on them too. #BikeSF https://oaklandside.org/2023/08/31/child-tragic-death-lakeshore-avenue-lack-of-protected-bike-lanes-oakland/

Wow, All City bike company is winding down production. Was not expecting this news bc I see a steady amount of people each day with new All City rigs.
Timeline cleanse.
Here is a protected bike lane (Townsend) and Caltrain.
See we can have nice things.
Is Treasure Island being built with protected bike lanes throughout? Van Ness style BRT? A grocery store, library, schools, and health care people can walk to? And no fossil power? If not we're building for the past.

An SF SUV driver who parked in the Cabrillo BL told me he's allowed to park in the BL bc he lives there and that he's a cyclist. He told me he rides a "real bike".
I was carrying my large analog bike on my cargo bike at the time.
I told him my kids bike in this BL, laughed and rode away.

another day, another encounter with a Middle-Aged Bike Guy Who Invents Arbitrary Cycling Rules Just To Be Angry At Other Cyclists Who Break Them
