Just started Richard Koloda’s biography of #AlbertAyler, and was reminded of something #BillDixon once said: “When Albert came along, we said to #ArchieShepp, ‘You think you’re hot shit, but this guy Ayler makes you sound like Lester Lanin!’” That was apparently a running joke on the scene for some time. (Lanin was a saxophonist with Lawrence Welk.)
