When it comes to conferences, they know that travel is a problem, so we have eRum and EuroBioc. I feel bad about flying from LA to Boston for #Bioc2023. Not good for the environment. Can we have, say, SoCalBioc or CABioc? Just like SatRday? What counts as local conference should be in terms of train travel. Amtrak sucks (OK, doesn't suck that bad in the northeast but sucks in CA). Organizing a conference is a lot of work. It needs to get rewarded. I'd like to help organize SoCalBioc.
