I'll be posting announcements, answering any questions, and boosting relevant posts from members of our team and user community (will follow and engage with posts carrying hashtag #BioCyc).

Currently developing a cool new visualization tool for comparing functional capabilities across various genomes, and I'm pretty pleased with what I have so far. Expect some version of this to be present in the next #BioCyc release!

#BioCyc has a new portal CyanoCyc, https://cyanocyc.org, highlighting #cyanobacteria genomes, with literature curation for four important organisms.

A couple of #Mastodon questions.

1) If I (or more likely, my colleague) were to create an official account for our website, #BioCyc, is there a convenient way to manage and track that account together, alongside my personal account? Note that I use the website (in advanced mode, or whatever they call the multi-column view), not any app, and the two accounts would likely be on different instances (unless I move my personal account). The birdsite had an easy way to log into both and switch which account you were viewing/posting from.

2) If I follow a hashtag, am I seeing all occurrences of that hashtag only on my own instance, or on all instances that my instance has federated with?

I just sent out #BioCyc customized email update notifications to nearly a hundred users who requested to be notified when there is new curation for particular genes and/or pathways of interest to them. We have over 300 users currently signed up for update notifications, but email is only sent when there is new curation in their particular interest areas. BioCyc is a collection of Pathway/Genome DBs for over 20,000 organisms, plus tools for exploring them. Our flagship databases EcoCyc and MetaCyc are painstakingly curated from the biological literature, and are free for all.

Here is the full list of 37 resources that the Global Biodata Commission designated as Global Core Biodata Resources today. It's an outstanding list, and I'm proud to see EcoCyc among them.

I've been working on EcoCyc and associated projects for nearly 30 years now, and we have an amazing team that works hard to put out a gold-standard product, so it's great to see it get the recognition it deserves!

Longtime computer scientist in #bioinformatics, one of the few lucky people who get to program in #lisp for a living! Principal developer of #BioCyc (https://biocyc.org) and #PathwayTools.

Interests include #history, #science & #politics. For fun, I read books and#tapdance (more enthusiastic than skilled!).
