@jebba I am familiar with them & have not used them. They can be effective, though I'm curious to know how it failed for you. As far as techniques for decomposing organic ingredients there are a host of ways, including #biodigesters, various ferments, sheet #composting (a favorite), #vermicompost, etc. In my thin sand "soils", #biochar does some heavy lifting. Also fond of pits for ALL paper / cardboard to feed worms, pill bugs, fungi.
