Just finishing work on controlled vocabularies for Audubon Core terms subjectPart and subjectOrientation: https://github.com/tdwg/ac/issues/245 hopefully to be ratified within about a month.

Currently, I’m a #postdoc researcher at the Czech University of Life Sciences Prague where I study the range dynamics of #Neotropical #carnivores. For those #biodiversity #biodiversityinformatics folks who hang out here, you may or may not have heard the sad news of the death of David Remsen of MBL. Dave did some very influential work on indexing taxonomic names that lead to the (sadly now defunct) uBio.org, spent time working at @gbif, and had a big influence on those of us working on trying to wrangle taxonomic names.

This data compilation helps us organise data as we collate datasets in #BiodiversityInformatics, as it provides the correct spelling of the #ScientificNames - and this is a real challenge. Names data are often very messy but key values to use in #DataIntegration.
It also allows us to explore who is participating in the publication of scientific names, where they are publishing and how publishing practices are changing.

There's often a strong vibe of:

#wikidata is the answer, what is the question

...especially in #BiodiversityInformatics - maybe its seen as an easy solution to our funding & scalability difficulties.

Currently I'm cautious about rushing this, especially for data about living people.
