I've read a couple of Walter Isaacson's books - "Benjamin Franklin" and "Einstein". There's no way I'm wasting my time and money on his latest book. Musk represents everything that's wrong with corporate America and Silicon Valley.

When I read a biography, I'm trying to understand the life and times of that person. I know more than I need to know about Musk. None of it is good.

The latest Starlink information, apparently from Isaacson's book, is further proof that there is nothing good about Musk.

@von I am a Californian, I've visited Washington for some mountain biking and I really enjoyed my time in the Cascades; Angels Staircase was amazing in the fall, with the golden larches blazing.

I read a book once that I really enjoyed, _Of Men and Mountains_. It was written by William O. Douglas, a Supreme Court justice, about his outdoor life as a young man in Washington state. It really did a great job of describing the place and time, the outdoors, the environment, the nature. I enjoyed it quite a bit.

Today in Labor History September 3, 1838: Frederick Douglass escaped from slavery in Baltimore, Maryland to freedom in the north, where he became a leader of the abolitionist movement. During his lifetime, he wrote 3 autobiographies and became a best-selling author. He also fought for women’s suffrage and was the first black man nominated to run for vice president. Douglass opposed colonialism and segregated schools. He was the most photographed American of the 19th century, never smiling once for the camera so as to not play into the racist myth of the happy slave.

A new book on South African liberation struggle icons Nelson and Winnie Mandela is a masterful biography of the pair.

Jonny Steinberg’s splendid 550-page biography, Winnie and Nelson: Portrait of a Marriage, ends on a note of pathos with a poignant tale from Nelson Mandela’s deathbed.

Connecticut Yankee Goes to Washington: Senator George P. McLean, Birdman of the Senate is a warm, if workmanlike, biography of an obscure New England Senator and his passion for birds.

As I wrote on my review of the book, "Giuliani by now is an illustration of the saying 'how the mighty have fallen.' Giuliani has gone from being a man adored by many to a figure of derision and contempt." (e)
