We are so pleased to announce that Junko Yano has been selected to serve as the Director of our Molecular Biophysics and Integrated Bioimaging (MBIB) Division. The #BioMBIB Division Director is vital for leading our efforts to address challenges in many areas, particularly understanding biological processes at a fundamental level.
Congratulations to Junko!
Researchers Michal Hammel and Greg Hura from our #BioMBIB division have partnered with Genentech to perform small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) at the
Advanced Light Source to quickly screen potential lipid nanoparticles (LNPs). LNPs are an emerging drug delivery technology used to encase therapeutic agents and deliver them unscathed to affected tissues.

Researchers from our #BioBSE and #BioMBIB divisions are working on a novel method for direct ocean capture of carbon using bacteria. Removing CO2 from the oceans will enable them to continue to do their job of absorbing excess CO2 from the atmosphere.

Congratulations to Eva Nogales, a senior faculty scientist in our Molecular Biophysics and Integrated Bioimaging Division on being awarded the 2023 Shaw Prize in Life Science and Medicine!
Nogales was recognized for pioneering structural biology techniques that enabled visualization of the protein machines responsible for gene transcription at the level of individual atoms.

Bill Jagust, professor at UC Berkeley and #BioMBIB faculty scientist, talks about how he got into Alzheimer Disease research in a Berkeley Science Journal interview. He also describes the current thinking about the disease and why he is optimistic about the future of treatment. #health @BerkeleyLab@sciencemastadon.com
