We are probably not the first ones to notice, but combining an optical (fNIRS) and an electric (tri-polar electrode EEG) modality boosts accuracy in BCI paradigms! Honestly, I'd forgotten how a Schmidt telescope works. But this is a pretty cool idea for a microscope: https://www.science.org/content/article/inspired-sea-and-sky-biologist-invents-new-kind-microscope
https://www.nature.com/articles/s41587-023-01717-8
The trick: the thing being observed is in the same fluid that's also touching the mirror & the correction plate.
I had to stare at some of the diagrams in the Nature article for a minute until I got it. But those diagrams are pretty cool too. #optics #science #biology #telescope #microscope #biomedicalEngineering #fluorescenceImaging

Not gonna lie I'm a little offended this is just for undergrads LoL. Should I crash tryouts and crush them? Maybe I'll just hit up the coach and see if he wants... help 😏😉 #running #biomedicalEngineering #gradSchool

Engineers at UCSD have developed a wearable ultrasound device that can assess both the structure and function of the human heart. The portable device, which is roughly the size of a postage stamp, can be worn for up to 24 hours and works even during strenuous exercise. The device is described today in Nature.

Hello all! #introduction
I am a Professor in the Joint Department of #BiomedicalEngineering at UNC-Chapel Hill and NC State University. My research group works in the broad area of #systemsbiology where we combine computational and experimental work to understand the behavior of these complex systems, with applications to #cancer and other diseases. Much of this work focuses on kinases and the kinome. We also have "spin off" work/interests in the areas of translational #AI (#machinelearning applied to #medicine) as well as #syntheticbiology. I am also involved in trying to link basic science work to the clinic as the Executive Director of FastTraCS, a team of clinicians and engineers working to identify and develop solutions to unmet clinical needs we find in the #healthcare system. Too many interests!
