🚨New manuscript: interorganelle lipid transport is rapid, & it is hard to quantify discrete steps in this network, mediated by lipid transfer proteins working at membrane contact sites between different organelles. We (Dongjun Liang & Lin Luan) harness chemoenzymatic tagging & super-fast chemistry to make fluorescent lipids that report on PM-to-ER phospholipid flux mediated by a family of lipid transfer proteins at these contact sites! doi.org/10.1101/2023.02.01.526

Takeaways:
1) analogs of PC lipids w/different choline structures adopt different organelle localizations & are useful for tracing interorganelle lipid transport
2) OCT1, a liver transporter typically used to study PK/drug efflux, can also facilitate uptake of small cationic probes, including choline analogs. Available soon @Addgene addgene.org/188995/

Tbh I was not aware of click-based amplification techniques and this paper hasn't been cited yet or gained much attention otherwise.

The research this was based on has been applied only to nucleic acid imaging:

So the question is has anyone tried this? Does it work and is it useful?
