Welcome to Birak - season of the young. This season is represented by the colour red, symbolising heat, sun and fire. Over December and January, rain eases up and warm weather sets in. Afternoons are cooled by sea breezes, meaning this was traditionally the burning time of the year. The country would be burned in mosaic patterns, increasing grazing pastures for animals, helping seed germination and making it easier to move across the country. This season also sees some babies venturing out of their nests, while reptiles shed their old skin for new. With rising temperatures, baby frogs also complete their transformation into adulthood.
