This marsh tit (Poecile palustris) was caught this morning at Wildgoose Rural Training nature reserve

Marsh tits are on the Red list of conservation concern. This one was first ringed at Wildgoose on 22 September 2021 as a juvenile, and retrapped again on 30 January 2022. Fingers crossed 🤞 for a successful breeding season.

It won't make for any flashy headlines, but I love this kind of paper, summarizing historical nature observations from museum collections. Florence Henderson (no relation to Mrs. Brady, apparently) was a biology teacher in the Central Valley of California in the 1920s and 30s, and banded birds with her students.

One of many interesting things about her records: No starlings. They hadn't made it to the Central Valley yet.

We caught (under licence) this handsome male reed bunting at the Wildgoose Rural Training nature reserve in #Worcestershire this morning.

Reed buntings are on the Amber list of conservation concern, and the team at Wildgoose do a great job of managing the site for this and other species #nature.
