From my archives, for the Fourth of July, some bald eagles: Riverdale Park (12/8/2019, Bronx, New York), Riverside Park (1/24/2020, Manhattan, two blocks from my campus), Prospect Park (2/8/2023, Brooklyn, New York), and the Tracy Brook Wildlife Sanctuary in Massachusetts (4/30/2022). The last is my favorite: for the others, I was out looking for eagles, but for the last, I was photographing great blue herons when a bald eagle flew overhead

There were no bald eagles in Prospect Park in Brooklyn when I was growing up, but that was the DDT era. Of course, I wasn't birding back then; as a younger kid, the only reason I went there was when my parents took me to the zoo; when I was in high school, I went there to ice skate.

Northern Saw-Whet Owls often eat their prey one half at a time, saving the rest for a late afternoon snack.

Lovely mid-winter day at Prospect Park, with raptors galore! Cooper's, Red-shouldered, and multiple Red-tailed Hawks; a Merlin finishing a snack, then preening and perching; and a Bald Eagle! The latter my first in the park - they pass through regularly but I've always managed to miss them until today. #birding #birdbk
