This is the most wonderful book about birds: Olive Thorne Miller's "The Children's Book of Birds." Yes, it's old-fashioned and anthropomorphic to an extent, but that's what makes it so sweet and relatable. Love the way she writes about how helpful so many birds are to farmers, and how the last thing people should be doing is killing them. Available for download at Project Gutenberg, here is the link. π₯° π π¦

I was looking for some of my field guides. The black bag was in this orange pack. Also found a nice tarp and a pair of binoculars that I had completely forgot about.

I built my first two books on the framework of my blogs. I have begun blogging again. Yes there may be a 3rd book (slowly) in the works about my life, birding, and travels in the Land Down Under.

Been in the islands of the Indian Ocean without much internet. Just a few days ago, I was snorkelling around that little island.

Here is a Forty-spotted Pardalote on north Bruny Island Tasmania about ten years ago. It appears to be smiling.

Here is a sunset on the Hay Plains of New South Wales. The colours remind me of the Aboriginal flag (but upside down).
I have written two books on travelling and birding down under. The first is "An Australian Birding Year" and the new one is, "More Australian Birding Tales." Both are available worldwide by John Beaufoy Publishing, Oxford, England.

A favourite memory from one of my favourite chapters, Chapter 11, An Unexpected Journey in "More Australian Birding Tales" available worldwide by John Beaufoy Publishing, Oxford, England.
This was at first light on a still morning crossing the Murray River in Waikerie, SA. Troopi (my troopcarrier camper's name) and I were the only ones on the ferry.

I love the light in this photo out in Warrah Ridge, New South Wales.
We saw Red-chested Button-quail out there along the road. The clouds were stunning but it never did storm. This story is told in Chapter 25 of my new book, "More Australian Birding Tales" which is now available worldwide. So is my first book, "An Australian Birding Year," both are published by John Beaufoy Publishing, Oxford England

Musk Lorikeet, truly one of our most beautiful Australian parrots. I have been extremely fortunate enough to have seen most of our parrots here (except for Night and Western Ground).
My new book, "More Australian Birding Tales" is available worldwide and makes a great holiday gift! As does my first book, "An Australian Birding Year" both by John Beaufoy Publishing, Oxford Eng

I love Princess Parrots! The tale is told in Chapter 14 of "More Australian Birding Tales" published by John Beaufoy Publishing of Oxford, England.
Six of us travelled into the North Gibson Desert many miles from anywhere and we saw these beautiful parrots. I beheld them 3 different times while we were out there. It is a wonderful memory and I love this photo that I managed to take β€οΈ

Hands up - I mean RT - if you're part of the 'swoons at the art in bird field guides' club. These plates are from Helmut Sick's 1993 #Birds in #Brazil: A Natural History; this art is by Paul Barruel (John P. O'Neill did plates for the book too) #books #birdbooks #booksonbirds
