Important #birdeing update: the local blue jays are mastering the art of silently swooping in and out to grab peanuts off the windowsill so the cat doesn't notice them, as opposed to their previous behaviour of sitting outside the window and SCREAMING
A fancy bird just came by to visit!!! A little light-brown bird with a yellow breast, chirping very pointedly and indignantly at me, which Merlin sound ID said was a Common Yellowthroat and it looks just like a female one.
who is this fancy bird i saw at Grenadier Pond (Toronto) the other day? it was swooping around scoping out the dense herds of bluegill huddled in the shallows
the photos are kind of crappy so i've also included my artistic rendition
The juncos are back! (It's weird seeing them when there's no snow on the ground.) As well as a couple of song sparrows. And a bunch of robins. #birdeing
Exciting #birdeing development: a flock of starlings, grackles, and red-winged blackbirds (and a few pigeons and robins) briefly visited the vacant lot outside my window!
Pretty dismal #birdeing today in Trinity-Bellwoods. I did see some of the house/purple finches (not sure exactly which they are) feeding young. And one junco.
The juncos, as ever, are out in the snow today. They are also being unusually bold, letting me actually get some shots as they sit on the clothesline working up the nerve to snatch sunflower seeds from under the cat's nose.
I also saw some Fancy Ducks the other day at Ontario Place. They were black with white markings on their heads. Yes, these were the best photos.

The Merlin app confirmed that the birds who've been screaming in the trees for the past several days are red-winged blackbirds! True harbinger of spring.
(I wasn't sure if they were just the starlings which make similar robotic noises and are also mimics)
It's never too cold or snowy for a dark-eyed junco. They are out there hopping around in the gusts of snow, pecking at sunflower seeds. #birdeing
last night the rain turned to ice, and this morning i saw there was a light dusting of snow. i thought to myself "snow…where are the juncos?" and went to brush my teeth.
when i came back there was a dark-eyed junco on the windowsill looking up at me like "where's the food bitch"
i put out some sunflower seeds and it flew off and brought back all its friends
Two hawks in a tree!!! Blue jays were complaining, and then a squirrel scared one off! #birdeing
what bird sounds like, "twip? two-two-two-two"
vibes: peppy
too faint for Merlin sound ID
