I've been following Alwyn Wils in the YouTube channel "A Chick Called Albert" for quite a while now. The original "Albert" was a quail he hatched from a supermarket egg. All his videos are worth watching.

One of the latest is saving and hatching the egg of a zebra finch that was unexpectedly laid in a transport box as he was bringing it to his aviary. It's the tiniest, cutest thing you ever saw.

Alwyn maintains a rescue/sanctuary in the Netherlands for birds and all kinds of other animals.

On Thursday, January 26, 2023, my friend and New Leaf Journal colleague, Victor V. Gurbo, happened across a distressed pigeon with a large amount of twine tied to one of its feet. This is the story of how Victor, with a little help from me, captured the pigeon and removed entanglements from both of its feet. Photographic evidence of the end result is provided (no photos of the twine, however, since we were preoccupied with said pigeon).

There was a Great Horned owl nest near my house that collapsed last spring. The owlets fell 60’ to the ground. We re-nested them in an old milk crate and their parents kept tending to them. I set a camera up in my bedroom and watched them grow. I happened to turn the camera on and capture one of them fledging.
