This marsh tit (Poecile palustris) was caught this morning at Wildgoose Rural Training nature reserve

Marsh tits are on the Red list of conservation concern. This one was first ringed at Wildgoose on 22 September 2021 as a juvenile, and retrapped again on 30 January 2022. Fingers crossed 🤞 for a successful breeding season.

Chiffchaff caught at Wildgoose Nature Reserve in #worcestershire this morning. They must be overwintering at the site as we caught two this morning, both ringed previously.

It’s a bit early in the season for any meaningful stats but, based on current data, my capture/recapture model is suggesting that this winter’s Chiffchaff population at South Milton Ley could be over 250 birds! I’ve already trapped 147. #birdringing

One of my favourite birds of 2022 - Juvenile common redstart caught under licence earlier in the year. Despite its name it is unusual to see one of these at our Constant Effort Site (CES) in #malvern #worcestershire

The CES Scheme provides valuable trend information on abundance of adults and juveniles, productivity and also adult survival rates for common songbirds.

Here’s a selection of colourful ducks that I caught and ringed under licence recently. Goosander, Teal and Goldeneye. I’ve been working on a Goosander tracking project the past couple of years and it’s always a thrill to catch one. HPAI is a worry and strict bio security protocols are adhered to while ringing birds #birdringing

Shortly after an out of control black & white #GreatDane tried to knock me over on #Overstrand beach, one of my favourite things happened….we spotted a ringed bird on the sea defences. I managed to get a pic with my bridge camera. We returned home, I cranked up my Mac, read the ring & reported a magnificent #GreatBlackbackedGull
