(*) The Hallett Nature Sanctuary is my favorite part of Central Park. It was closed off from the rest of the park in the 1930s and wasn't accessible to the public until 2016, shortly before I moved to NYC. A good friend told me about it right after it reopened, when it was only open for a few hours a day and limited to a handful of visitors at a time. It's such an amazing corner of quiet & solace in the middle of the city -- you can sit and see the buildings on Central Park South through the trees while hearing nothing but birds chirping and he occasional lost tourist.
