Also not my experience. The instance I'm on has a lot of creatives, so I get paintings, poems, photos, writing and a lot more. The variety that comes in from the federated feeds adds interest and spice to the day, even from the *nix geeks.

I find myself discussing random subjects with new people all the time, something I never did on the #birdshite

I visit #mastadon daily, without obsessing and disappearing down rabbit holes.

I’ve always known LinkedIn was a ‘professional’ network and I had to maintain a ‘brand’ there - but I realise now that I was doing that on the #Birdshite too, I just thought I was being myself. I had different accounts across the interweb depending on what I wanted to say to who. I’ve quit them all. Sooooo relieved to not have to maintain multiple personalities anymore.

On the #Birdshite I always felt like I was ‘broadcasting’ to an audience and needed to think things through properly. I was constantly curating. Here I’m just being myself which is so liberating. And, yeah people who know me in real life might find me here at some point, but if they do, they’ll find the real me.

Have you, like me, popped back over to the #birdshite occasionally, not to contribute but just to see what's happening there, and detected an increasingly hostile tone toward the #energytransition?

We just have to start agitating for it is my guess. Also, wasn't somebody else on the #birdshite talking about building some PDF scrapers for utility filings like a year or two ago? Maybe David Pomerantz or Dave Weiskopf or.. ?? Ring any bells?

It’s weird, on the #Birdshite I never felt like I could be myself. It felt like my personal PR projection, for work and those who knew me. The LAST thing I could do was be honest. Always had to think each post through forensically. I’ve deleted it now, and even though I realise Mastodon is no less public, and all those people could find this - all of a sudden I can’t bring myself to edit anymore. Surely I get to be myself before I die?
